Bicycles without Borders, a special project

Delivering bicycles to people without resources so that they can travel to school or their workplace is their mission. But there is much more…

We inaugurate this category of articles ‘Bike Friendly Solidarity’ talking about some great friends, the guys from Bicycles without Borders, a non-profit social project of the Utopia Foundation which, in collaboration with other entities, companies and organizations, contributes to improving the quality of life of people without resources through bicycles.

Bicycles without Borders is dedicated to delivering bicycles to people without resources so that they can travel to school or work. The bikes before They are reviewed, repaired and assembled in their job placement workshops, where jobs are generated for people at risk of social exclusion.. The final recipients of these bicycles are carefully selected, since for them the purchase of a bicycle is beyond their means, but it represents the gateway to better living conditions, for example, making daily travel easier. Therefore, for Bicycles without Borders, The bike is an element of cohesion, integration and solidarity. Each bicycle delivered is the result of the effort of many people and entities involved in this solidarity project where the important thing is the path traveled. In this sense, it is worth highlighting the existing alliance with the cooperative bike, which is responsible for preparing the bicycles that will then be delivered.

Since Bicycles Without Borders began its activity at the end of 2012, They have delivered 1.923 bicycles in countries such as Spain, India or Senegal, bicycles that have improved access to education and work for these people, in addition to generating direct jobs in the integration workshops. In the last of the mentioned countries, the main BSF project is developed: Bicycles for Education in Palmarín (Senegal) where we work together with the rural community and the Lluís Llach Foundation to deliver bicycles to high school students and create jobs in their maintenance. Thanks to all this work, more than 300 teenagers have already benefited from a bike and have avoided walking between 4 and 12 km each day.Ways to collaborate with BSF? Many, from sponsoring a bicycle for 70 euros, to becoming a member for 5 euros a month and a sponsored bike, to donating one euro for registration of that cycle tour that you organize annually and, of course, delivering the bicycles that are no longer available. you use, for which Bicycles without Borders has various collection points (about 140...) throughout the country, including Bikefriendly Group and its headquarters in Jaca (Huesca). So now you know, if you have bicycles that you no longer use and you want someone who needs it to be able to use it, don't hesitate. All bikes collected will be sent to Bicycles Without Borders where they will be reviewed and fine-tuned, delivering them to children and adults without resources so that they can travel to work or school.
