The Transpyrenean mountain biking It is an experience that must be lived at least once in a lifetime. 12 stages by bike with almost 1.000 km of route and more than 20.000 m of positive gradient that you can pedal in a group or at your leisure.
From east to west, from the Costa Brava to the Atlantic, crossing the Pyrenees mountain range and crossing Catalonia, Aragon, Navarra and the Basque Country. You will discover magnificent stages that run from the spectacular coastal cliffs to the endless ascents of the great peaks of the central Pyrenees.
Without a doubt, diversity is one of the concepts that can most define the challenge of do the Transpyrenean by bike. Friendly or cruel climates, eccentric and distrustful native fauna, contrasting glaciers and valleys... the Pyrenees route is full of contrasts. We tell you each of its stages!
Stages of the Transpyrenean mountain bike
1. Roses – Figueres
Distance: 77,5 km | Elevation: +1400m
Bordering the coves of the Costa Brava with spectacular views. We will pass through the beautiful towns of Cadaqués and Port de la Selva. We will go up to Sant Pere de Roda, a paved port that should be taken calmly. Once we reach the top, all that remains is to go down to Vilajuïga to Figueres.
2. Figueres – Comprodon
Distance: 83,5 km | Elevation: +1.770 m
Without major unevenness, with a greater amount of asphalt and already immersed in the Pyrenees. A feeling of peace surrounds the environment and glimpses of the hanging houses of Castellfollit de la Rocto. The last kilometers of climbing will take us to Camprodón and Llanars.
3. Camprodón – La Molina
Distance: 78,5 km | Elevation: +3.360 m
The Pyrenees shakes strongly and the greatest physical effort is required to overcome this stage. A gap of 3.360 meters is the maximum of the hard ramps that are present until reaching La Molina.
4. La Molina – La Seu D'urgell
Distance: 65 km | Elevation: +1.200 m
The paths are typical of the forest And therein lies its complication, however the unevenness decreases and the landscape becomes the star of the route. The climbs to Monteià or Arséguel will be the walls to overcome in this stage.
5. La Seu D'urgell – Senterada
Distance: 92,5 km | Elevation: +3.450 m
The large ramps return and the mountains are silent witnesses of the journey. More than 90 km of pedaling and natural beauty that culminates with the Estany de Montcortès. Every effort has its reward, and a refreshing bath is the best they can offer us.
6. Sitting – Field
Distance: 92,3 km | Elevation: +3.115 m
The main characteristic of the middle of the pyrenean crossing They are the hardest and most mountainous valleys to face. The fAuna becomes the protagonist and companion throughout the stages of the Transpyrenean. We will enter Aragón, and we will do so by going up to the top of Bonansa and Sant Martín de Veri. It will be the highest point of the route and from there all that remains is to descend to Campo.
7. Field – Prosecutor
Distance: 75,37 km | Elevation: +2.155 m
We will get to know one of the most cycling territories in the entire country. The visit to the Villa de Aínsa It will allow us to rest and then pedal gently uphill until we reach Fiscal.
8. Prosecutor – Jaca
Distance: 67 km | Elevation: +1.900 m
El cyclist's encounter with Monte Perdido of the Pyrenees leaves its mark. Images that will never be forgotten. Long kilometers in which it gives the impression of being inside a movie. Enjoying the roads and paths of Mount Oroel until the end of the stage.
9. Jackfruit – Isaba
Distance: 90,5 km | Elevation: +2.200 m
It is the turn of the Western Valleys Natural Park. It's time to accumulate more meters of unevenness that pass between Pyrenean towns whose architecture will not leave anyone indifferent. We will leave Aragon to enter Navarra. The Belabarze waterfall, near Isaba, will be one of the last monuments we see before reaching the end of the stage.
10. Isaba – Burguete
Distance: 75 km | Elevation: +1.600 m
The Irati Jungle welcomes MTB lovers on the tenth day of their Trans-Pyrenean mountain bike trip and accompanies them with their myths and legends through a mystery of nature. The lushness of these forests will take us to the Irabia reservoir before reaching Burguete.
11. Burguete – Etxalar
Distance: 65 km | Elevation: +1.550 m
We will go up to Roncesvalles, we will pass to France to descend again towards Beartzun. We will be filming in the highest areas of the Navarrese Pyrenees, where witches in the Middle Ages found their shelter to hold covens.
12. Etxalar – Hondarribia
Distance: 30,5 km | Elevation: +100 m
Maybe the stage easier and more balanced of the Transpyrenean mountain bike route. With hardly any unevenness, we will share the route with families who travel this route along the banks of the river that flows into Hondarribia. We will have completed the most demanding and authentic route in our country. !! Congratulations!!
