Bikefriendly and the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE) will work together on promotional actions for the new Bikefriendly Kids travel line, created by the agency specialized in cycle tourism.
Bikefriendly Tours , the travel agency specializing in the cycle tourism sector, belonging to Bikefriendly Group , has signed a collaboration agreement with the Spanish Railways Foundation, the institution responsible for promoting Greenways since 1993 , through which both parties commit to working together on actions to promote Bikefriendly trips with children, operated on various Greenways in the Spanish state.
With the signing of this agreement, the Greenways Area of the FFE (Spanish Federation of Cycling) shows its support for the launch of Bikefriendly Tours' new family travel line , called Bikefriendly Kids , which already includes four tour packages for 2018 in destinations such as the Greenways of Asturias , Girona , Tarragona , and Alicante . This catalog will be expanded during the summer months with the addition of new destinations.
The joint work of the travel agency and the Foundation will materialize in concrete actions such as the distribution of promotional flyers for Bikefriendly Kids trips on Greenways at industry fairs and events, joint participation in specific activities, the creation of new tour packages annually, and the launch of various joint communication initiatives through social media, websites, catalogs, and newsletters of both entities. Bikefriendly Kids is an innovative bicycle tourism product that places the child at the heart of the trip. Upon arrival at the hotel, the children receive a gift specially designed for them, which is different at each destination. All the proposed itineraries can be adapted and personalized to the age and physical and technical ability of the children. Likewise, each trip can be complemented with other routes or complementary activities for the children.
Having the collaboration of the Greenways department of the Spanish Railways Foundation in designing these packages guarantees two things: firstly, that the routes follow paths or tracks adapted from old railway lines, with a smooth, compacted, safe surface, virtually no elevation changes, and clearly marked routes. This allows all members of the family to enjoy cycling on them, whether with mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, tandems, or cycle trailers.
And secondly, that the routes pass through natural spaces of great beauty and different enclaves of great cultural interest and that they recover the enormous railway heritage left by the old train routes.
The Greenways Program was launched in 1993 with the aim of rescuing from oblivion the more than 7.600 kilometers of disused railway lines – or those that were never used – with the goal of recovering this vast railway heritage (magical tunnels, striking viaducts, romantic stations…) and giving them a new ecotourism purpose. Since then, these former railway lines have been adapted to be traveled by a different kind of traveler than those who once journeyed by train: cyclists, walkers, and people with reduced mobility. There are already 2.600 km of Greenways and more than 120 routes throughout Spain.
The Spanish Railways Foundation , promoter of the Greenways , a pioneering sustainable mobility and tourism initiative in our country, thus supports the creation of Bikefriendly Kids , and is firmly committed to the joint promotion of family cycling tourism in the national territory.
