Representatives of the provincial councils of Pontevedra and Gipuzkoa and the city councils of Pamplona and Torrent, collected their awards as winning territories and cities of the 2021 Bikefriendly Awards

This Thursday the award ceremony for the awards was held at the Eurostars Málaga Hotel. Bikefriendly Awards 2021 driven by the Network of Bicycle Cities (RCxB).
The event, in which José del Río Escolar, delegate councilor of the Mobility Area of the Malaga City Council and Trinidad Hernández, General Director of Mobility participated, marked the final touch to the II Urban Bicycle Meeting, an intense day of work and reflection on mechanisms to promote the use of bicycles in cities organized by Bikefriendly and promoted by the Network of Cities for Bicycles, which had the support of the Malaga City Council, the Amper Group, Littium and Up and Bike.
A total of 43 cities and territories presented their candidacies for the Bikefriendly Awards promoted by the Network of Cities for Bicycles in this edition.
After evaluating in detail the reports presented, the Awards jury decided to recognize on this occasion the effort demonstrated by the deputations of Pontevedra and Gipuzkoa, as well as for the town halls of Pamplona and Torrent to promote cycling as a means of urban transport.
Furthermore, the town councils of A Coruña, Valladolid, Logroño and Fuenlabrada They obtained second prizes in different categories.
Leadership and commitment
Uxio Benítez Fernández, deputy for Alternative Mobility and Public Space of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, collected the award for his administration in the category 'Leadership and commitment' by the ÁGORA project.
It is an institutional action network between city councils and the Provincial Council that aims to value public space as a fundamental right of citizens. In this sense, the Ágora town councils substantially increase the space reserved for people, pedestrian and cyclable routes.
A total of ten public entities had submitted their candidacy for this category.
Cycling infrastructure
Ander Iturri, general director of Mobility and Public Transport of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, collected the Bikefriendly 2021 Award for its Administration in the category of 'Cycling infrastructure.
The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has been selected due to the promotion of Eibar – Maltzaga cycle route, recognized among good practices at the European level in the management of ERDF Funds. This road represents a large investment and an engineering milestone at the service of sustainable mobility. A connecting axis to overcome the orography while respecting the environment and people's health, which has quickly become one of the itineraries best valued by citizens.
Thirteen public entities opted for recognition in this category in this edition.
Education and promotion
María Isabel Gómez Jiménez, responsible for Mobility of the Pamplona City Council, collected the award for her city council andn the category of 'Education and Promotion'. According to the jury's ruling, the council has demonstrated its commitment to cycling mobility through the great diversity of actions aimed at educating and promoting the bicycle as a means of daily transport: practical training, guided walks and communication campaigns. Bicycle economy
Raúl Claramonte, councilor for the Mobility and Transport area of the Torrent City Council, collected the Bikefriendly Award in the category of 'Bikeeconomy'. The jury selected the candidacy of Torrent City Council for their project 'Bikes for All / Bikes for Totes', which stands out for the collaboration of the City Council and the Col.lectiu Soterranya to guarantee access to a bicycle for all people who need it. The project is based on three pillars: solidarity, sustainability and sustainable mobility with the bicycle as a tool.

In addition, the four second prizes for the 2021 Bikefriendly Awards were awarded at the gala:
- Innova second prize to the City Council of A Coruña for its commitment to taking advantage of the works or actions in the modification of traffic for the execution and increase of cycling infrastructure. He received recognition Antonio Alferián, superintendent commissioner for Mobility of the City Council of A Coruña.
- Second prize Sprinter to the Valladolid City Council by the Valladolid Green City Strategy and the rapid implementation of the Sustainable Corridors Network through low-cost technical actions. Luis Velez, Councilor for Mobility of Valladolid, collected the award electronically.
- Second prize '30 Days by Bike' to the Logroño City Council for its involvement in the dissemination and promotion of the 30 Days on a Bike 2021 campaign among its citizens. She collected the award Jaime Caballero, Councilor for Sustainable Urban Development of the Logroño City Council.
- Second prize 'Bike to Work' to the Fuenlabrada City Council for its Commuting Limpio Fuenlabrada project and its comprehensive commitment to intermodality to encourage commuting to work by bicycle. Prize giving
Raúl Villacampa, president of the group Bikefriendly, thanked all the cities and territories participating in the Bikefriendly Awards for their commitment and highlighted the impact and reception that this initiative has had among the administrations adhering to the Network of Cities for Bicycles. "The quality of the applications presented demonstrates that the bicycle occupies an increasingly important place on the political agenda and in the design and mobility strategies of cities," celebrates Villacampa.
The president of the Bicycle Cities Network, Antoni Poveda, also thanked all the cities and territories that submitted their candidacies for this edition of the Bikefriendly Awards for the effort dedicated to promoting cycling mobility. Likewise, he celebrated the presence of all those attending the award ceremony and expressed his gratitude to the Malaga City Council for acting as host of the II Urban Bicycle Meeting and the 2021 Bikefriendly Awards.
