Alcoi Greenway, Xixarra Greenway and Maigmó Greenway

Greenways of Alicante

The interior of the province of Alicante is a true cycling paradise. And a good way to discover it is through three of its Greenways promoted by the Foundation of the Spanish Railways, ideal for getting started family cycle tourism.

Alcoi Greenway

Located between Alcoi and La Canal, this 10 km itinerary has a smooth profile with a mixed surface (asphalt in some sections and compacted dirt in others). Despite its relative short length, it goes through no less than 10 tunnels and 3 viaducts, something that always attracts the attention of the little ones in the house.

This route runs over the vestiges of the old Alcoi-Alicante railway, whose purpose was to provide an outlet for the manufacturing products of this prosperous city. Today it is presented as a haven of peace that runs through a Mediterranean forest in the heart of the Carrascal de la Font Roja Natural Park.[videoplayer main_style=”style-1″ video_link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=woMUbrmjMgs&feature=youtu.be” title_t_heading=”” title_font_options=”tag:div” subtitle_t_heading=”” subtitle_font_options=”tag:div” etc_h=””]Xixarra Greenway

15 km of compacted earth that link the Sanctuary of Virtues and the town of Biar. In the heart of the Sierra de Mariola, the Vinalopo, Agres and Serpis Valleys, and the Agres Ravine.

Alicante has a great heritage of abandoned railway lines that crisscross its different regions. This route recovers 15 km of an 84 km route, where the train popularly known as 'Xixarra' previously circulated.[videoplayer main_style=”style-1″ video_link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PmdSqfDqEE&feature =youtu.be” title_font_options=”tag:div” subtitle_font_options=”tag:div” title_t_heading=”” subtitle_t_heading=”” etc_h=””]Maigmó Greenway

At 22 kilometers it is the longest of the Alicante Greenways. This is an itinerary that connects Agost with the port of Maigmó, with a surface where asphalt and compacted earth alternate, also crossing a total of 6 tunnels and 2 viaducts.

A route of gentle ascent to the Maigmó pass along a changing route that moves between the cultivated plain of the Agost depression and the Mediterranean forest landscapes of the Maigmó mountain range, covered with Aleppo pine and pierced by impressive ravines and gullies.[ videoplayer main_style=”style-1″ video_link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-T5BuYW9fQ&feature=youtu.be” title_font_options=”tag:div” subtitle_font_options=”tag:div” title_t_heading=” ” subtitle_t_heading=”” etc_h=””]Stop and restaurant
