While waiting to receive the second seat, and to be able to go out together as a family of four – father, mother and twins – we have already experienced the sensations transmitted by the WeeRide Safe Front DeLuxe child seat with a short ride where the little ones, in turns, have been able to feel for the first time what it is like to ride a bike.
And the result, to be honest, couldn't have been more satisfying. They both enjoyed the walk, relaxed, without any sense of fear, attentively observing what was happening around them… until one of them even fell peacefully asleep, resting his head on the padded front support of the chair.
After adjusting their helmets – also WeeRide brand, by the way , ideal for their special design for small heads and their perfect fit – it's time to seat them and buckle them into the chair, a very simple task thanks to the effective system designed for this purpose. The children are safe, perfectly secured, but with freedom of movement for their arms and head. When it's time to set off, and due to the chair's placement, starting while straddling the bike's top tube won't work... because there's no room. You have to get on and start the classic way, placing one foot on a pedal, giving an initial push, and then swinging the other leg behind the saddle to the other pedal. Nothing complicated, really. And if you're not quite sure about the technique, a few practice sessions beforehand – without a child in the chair, just in case – will have you mastering it without any problem.
As for the pedaling position, this is where we find the biggest drawback of the WeeRide . Its placement forces you to pedal with your legs slightly apart, which can be detrimental to your knees. But we also have to be realistic… this seat is designed for leisurely rides and short distances… for a cycling tour or a longer trip, there are other, more suitable options . Even so, the riding position isn't an impediment to reaching high speeds and tackling fun trails without difficulty… And I can assure you that's where the little ones, and the parents of course, have the most fun. While we wait for the second chair to arrive, we're already thinking about the routes we'll be cycling on for the next few weekends.
