Coinciding with the celebration of European Mobility Week, from September 16 to 22 , the Barcelona municipality will present the project to all local stakeholders and the public through various events.
The Sant Boi de Llobregat City Council , in collaboration with Bikefriendly Consulting , has developed its Urban Bicycle Strategy , which aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the city, making Sant Boi a 'bike-friendly' town and making this vehicle an essential element in its daily life.
This strategy comprises two main areas, essential for promoting cycling: cycling infrastructure and education. These are complemented by three other specific areas of work: local economic development, health and sport, and communication.
A major project for the municipality will be unveiled during European Mobility Week 2017, from September 16th to 22nd . During those days, the City Council and local stakeholders have planned various events in public spaces to encourage citizen participation, culminating on Friday the 22nd with a group ride through the entire municipality, ending at the Sant Boi Cycling Park . There, everyone will be able to cycle freely, and the Sant Boi Cycling Club will be running activities to introduce road cycling to the community.
Scheduled activities:
- Biciescuela for everyone: workshops on road safety education and safe driving by bicycle around the city.
- Learn how to keep your bike ready: tips for good bicycle maintenance and safer driving.
- Cycle tourism activities: group outings to discover the city's forestry, agricultural and river heritage by bicycle.
- Bike show on the street: exhibition of the latest bicycle models and the possibility of trying them out.
- Promotion of sports cycling: activities to promote road cycling through the city's cycling clubs and invited experts.
Furthermore, starting Monday, September 18, Sant Boi will join the voluntary bicycle registration service 'Biciregistro', promoted by the Network of Cities for Bicycles . It is also planned that in the coming months the municipal fleet of bicycles provided by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area for public employees will continue to expand.
With all these measures in place, the process of transforming Sant Boi de Llobregat into a city that is clearly committed to cycling as a daily vehicle has begun, which will have an impact on the quality of life of its citizens.
