Discover the incredible bike routes through Andalusiabike routes through Andalusia

Discuss Andalusia is talking about sun and beach, but Andalusia is really much more and specifically Antequera is different, having the city of Malaga one hour away, we are facing an inland city that It gives us a multitude of kilometers to do bike routes, both with mountain bike and road riding.

Antequera it is found in a geographic enclave strategic, being located in the center of Andalusia, where the main communication routes of the community converge. The city is located 45 km from Malaga and 115 km from Córdoba, cities with which it is connected by high-speed train.

This beautiful area offers us a huge range of possibilities to plan our preseason training, or ride long distances with significant slopes in the event that the season is already advanced.

Routes for all tastes and profiles

  •  Quiet routes: the northern plains of Antequera, between its cereal fields and the characteristic olive trees of the Andalusian countryside, will allow us to travel quiet roads, where the kilometers will be pleasant, not simple, since we can also look for gentle ascents in the vicinity of the town of Cuevas de San Marcos, or Archidona.
  • Routes through the mountains: en the west and south zone In this town we will find the beautiful mountain ranges of Huma, Llana and Valle de Abdalajís, highlighting above all the El Torcal Natural Area, famous for the whimsical shapes of its limestone rocks, which make up one of the most important Karst landscapes in Europe. The ascension to the Torcal es one of the most legendary routes for cyclists in the area, with an average slope of 11%, and a maximum of 14%.

The Torcal de Antequera

  • Routes with unevenness: In the case of searching long routes with some unevenness, We can plan countless variants such as: a visit to the city of Málaga, ascending the Puerto de León in the Montes de Málaga Natural Park, or routes through the Gaitanes Gorge and El Chorro to the Guadalhorce reservoir, and thus we can choose routes where measure our state of fitness.
  • MTB routes: I am convinced that we are facing one of the most beautiful places in the country to practice cycling, since the BTT also has a multitude of possibilities between cereal fields, orchards and olive trees, being able to ascend to its pine mountain ranges, where we can achieve that tranquility and rest that we are looking for.
  • Family routes: Pedaling hand in hand with the youngest members of the family through the Llanos de Antequera, it can be one of the greatest experiences a cyclist can have. The landscape between olive trees, together with the silence of its fields, will make us reach a state of total satisfaction.

Tourism, relaxation and gastronomy

After an hour on our bike, we will have time to enjoy this beautiful city, which extends along the slope of a hill at the foot of the Sierra del Torcal, in a network of streets of different character depending on the era, dotted with an innumerable list of monuments of interest: the monumental complex of the Alcazaba, the Arco de the Giants, the Collegiate Church of Santa María, etc.

On the outskirts of Antequera, located in a typical Andalusian stately farmhouse from the 18th century, the Hotel Finca Eslava , will give us an opportunity to take a few well-deserved hours of rest in its Aquaslava sports center, with a wide range of services in its facilities thinking about your health and relaxation. With massage services, swimming pool, gym, beauty and aesthetics, etc.

There is nothing better to regain strength after a hard day on our bike, which a good diet. The opportunities offered by gastronomy in Antequera are as diverse as they are exquisite. The richness of the culinary heritage of the numerous peoples and cultures that have passed through its lands makes it one of the most varied in Andalusia. Among the typical dishes, cereals, legumes, vegetables and the delicious local olive oil predominate, all essential ingredients of the Mediterranean diet and obtained from its fertile Vega.

As the advertisement says “Andalusia will not leave you indifferent”.
