We inaugurate this category of articles 'Solidarity Bike Friendly' talking about some great friends, the guys from Bicicletas sin Fronteras, a non-profit social project of the Utopia Foundation that, in collaboration with other entities, companies and organizations, contributes to improving the quality of life of people without resources through bicycles.
The animosity towards those of us who practice cycling has come to the fore again. As if we did not have enough with the traps in the mountains, sadly famous for years, now it is the turn of the bike lanes and the roads, as we have learned in recent days, specifically, through an event that occurred in the Madrid's community.
While waiting to receive the second chair, and to be able to go on outings together - father, mother and twins -, we have already experienced the sensations that the WeeRide Safe Front DeLuxe child seat transmits with a short walk where the dwarfs, in turns, have I was able to feel for the first time what it's like to ride a bike.
After a long wait, the time has come. The dwarfs already sit up and hold their heads up without problems. It's time to get them on the bike... in this case their father's, of course. And the chair chosen for his first rides on two wheels was the WeeRide Safe Front Deluxe.
Let's be honest. Not even in my wildest dreams could I imagine that before Marcos and Lucas were one month old I would be able to get on the bike again... and go pedaling beyond the storage room. Well yes, I have achieved it! And improving the already optimistic forecasts that I mentioned in the previous post! So now you know, first-time cyclist parents, “yes we can (ride our bicycles)”.
I write these lines while holding a baby just days old asleep on my lap... and his newborn brother seems to be watching me from the nearby couch. Yes, indeed, I have been a father and doubly so. Two twins, healthy, handsome (yes, okay, I drool over them...) and desired ones who have arrived to give a 360 degree turn to our lives.
Pedaling by sensation versus pedaling with a heart rate monitor
Some days ago I met a good friend pedaling through the roads of Huesca. He had lost track of her since he went to live in Barcelona for a few years, so we take the opportunity to catch up and we talked about everything a little: family, work, solving the country and, of course, our common passion, which is cycling.
He was competing in amateurs, then he moved to duathlon and then triathlon. He told me that I haven't touched my bike for ten years. and he was surprised when I told him that I had not stopped riding for twenty years – it is clear that not daily because daily responsibilities prevent me from doing so, but always taking hours where there are none to pedal...
Asked the reason for his abandonment for so many years: were you injured? work?
- "no no…I ended up burned! I realize that so much training and so much sacrifice are of no use. And why haven't you left it?
-"Scabies with pleasure does not itch"
And the thing stayed there, but when I got home I started thinking about his question.
Consistency brings you closer to your goalsPerseverance, perseverance, tenacity, stubbornness, continued effort or whatever we want to call it is something that we acquire from the day we are born to carry out any of our daily actions. Getting up early in the morning to go to school, institute, work...study, train, go to extracurricular activities after a hard day, etc. It requires great energy and enthusiasm, which will not always accompany us to develop them.
