Trip description

THE TRIP BY BIKE OR WALKING

During the trip, we will five stages by bicycle that will allow us to pedal on the sand that covers the streets of many of the towns and villages in the Sine-Saloum region. Areas in which young people who attend daily classes live Palmarin or Boyard institutes and they have to walk, on average, 10 kilometers a day to get to school.

In addition to living the experience of touring the savannah through endless white sand beaches, thatched villages, majestic baobab forests and places as incredible as the fishing port of Djiffer; This solidarity trip to Senegal will allow us to meet the promoters of Bicycles Without Borders in Senegal, to the young people who have already accessed a bicycle thanks to them, to the teachers who are involved in helping all of this happen and to people like Marcel, who have managed to improve their job prospects by working as bicycle mechanics in high schools.

THE BAOBIKES

We will also know the bicycle factory with its own brand that has promoted Bicicletas Sin Fronteras in Palmarin. In this workshop, which trains and employs young people from the area, it mounts the baobikes, beautiful yellow bicycles designed by Momabikes and Tannus, which have allowed the project to stop depending on donations of second-hand bicycles and which also help homogenize the type and model of bicycle that each child accesses, thus eliminating inequalities .

With the financial contribution of the 20 places in this edition, Bikefriendly gives up its benefit, donating a percentage of the income to sponsor a baobike for each traveler.

IMMENSE THE LOCAL CULTURE

During this solidarity trip to Senegal you will not be a tourist. You will soak up the culture and way of life of the inhabitants of Sine-Saloum. You will discover authentic solidarity. You will eat with your hands, you will attend Senegalese struggle events, you will learn inspiring stories that will change the way you see things...

Tuesday, March 26: The authentic African steppe

Bike day for the authentic african steppe. During our route we will pass through villages hidden among baobabs and palm trees. A landscape where the iron red of the earth predominates above all.
Route in which the sun reminds us how hard the journeys are for children who go to school along these same roads.

A day without a bike where coexistence and integration with the local population will be the main protagonist

In the morning, we will visit the Bicycles without Borders project at the Palmarin institute and we will see the Bikefriendly hangar, the seed that has transformed a wish into reality: to be able to share this magnificent project with all of you.

In the afternoon there will be the option to do an extra activity (not included in the trip): take a cart ride visiting the hyena refuge within the Natural Reserve or take a tour of the mangroves with a kayak.

Saturday, March 30: time to say goodbye

We will enjoy the local community and the group one last time before saying goodbye.
In the morning we will return to Point Veló, where we met our wonderful guides and the creators of this project. We will return the bikes and have the rest of the morning free to say goodbye to the local people and make final purchases before taking the bus that will take us back to Dakar airport and boarding each group on the plane to their city of origin.
Time to return home with a head full of memories and new friendships.

FAQs

How do you do flights?
Once the minimum number of participants is guaranteed, we will contact those who have formalized the pre-reservation and we will give you instructions
This is a trip where the bike is the means and we will use it for daily trips, but we are not going to beat ourselves up. It's about enjoying and getting to know the project, the country, its people and its culture. We will stop as many times as necessary to take photos, interact with people and rest somewhere.
The best thing is that you always carry what you are used to eating to avoid any downturn and that you can eat on the road whenever you need it. At the aid stations you can refill the bottle and eat fruit.
We will try, but you have to understand that we are in Senegal and the variety of food is very limited. At the end of the reservation, we will contact you and send you a form with some relevant questions: contact in case of emergency, allergies and intolerances, health problems,...
At the International Vaccination Center in your area, there are experts who will tell you the guidelines to follow. Request an appointment when you make your trip reservation.
