Medium and high mountain, San Isidro, Puerto de las Señales

The first day of this cycling trip through Asturias begins and ends in Pola de Laviana , in the heart of the Redes Natural Park , one of the most spectacular areas in northern Spain for road cycling. A demanding, varied, and deeply alpine stage, perfect for those seeking iconic mountain passes, unspoiled nature, and the feel of a Grand Tour.

The day begins with the ascent to Alto de la Colladona , a gentle climb that serves as a warm-up and already offers panoramic views of green valleys and endless mountains. After the descent towards Cabañaquinta, comes one of the day's great giants: the Puerto de San Isidro , a stage finish in the Vuelta a España and one of the most emblematic climbs in the Cantabrian Mountains. Its relentless gradients, its high-mountain atmosphere, and the arrival at the Fuentes de Invierno ski resort make this climb a challenge as tough as it is unforgettable.

Upon reaching the summit, the road leads us to the highest village in Asturias , before briefly entering León and connecting with another classic: the Puerto de las Señales pass . A beautiful border crossing, surrounded by deep forests and rocky peaks, marks our return to Asturian territory.

The descent through Tarna is pure delight: kilometers of flowing curves and open views accompany the end of the stage. The final stretch to Pola de Laviana is gentle, perfect for a relaxed ride and enjoying the scenery of the Redes Natural Park , a designated Biosphere Reserve.

A complete stage, with the true flavor of great cycling, combining legendary mountain passes, wild nature, and the untamed character of the Asturian mountains. A day to feel that every pedal stroke is worthwhile.

Angliru, an epic stage for cyclists seeking an unforgettable challenge

The second stage of this journey through Asturias is, without a doubt, the most epic. A day designed for those who dream of conquering one of the toughest and most mythical climbs in world cycling: the Angliru . A legendary ascent, decisive in so many editions of the Vuelta a España , and a challenge that marks a turning point for any cyclist.

In the morning, we will travel 15 km in our vehicles to the starting point at the Hotel Palacio de las Nieves , the starting and ending point of the day.

We left La Felguera, riding towards Mieres up the San Tirso climb . A perfect climb to warm up our legs, enjoy the Asturian countryside, and prepare our bodies for what's to come. After the descent, we passed through Mieres and headed towards La Vega , the starting point for the day's monster of a ride.

From there begins the ascent to the Angliru , a mountain pass that needs no introduction. Impossible ramps, sections exceeding 20%, the air thinning, and that mountain silence broken only by your breath. Climbing the Angliru is not just a physical challenge: it's an emotional experience, an inner journey that connects you with cycling in its most authentic form.

Every curve, every wall, every meter covered is a victory. And when you finally reach the summit, the feeling that justifies every pedal stroke is overwhelming: being in the same place where professionals have written some of the most epic chapters in modern cycling.

The return journey follows the same route, allowing us to enjoy the scenery and reflect on the ride. We descend towards La Vega, cycle back to Mieres, and tackle the climb to San Tirso once more , this time with the satisfaction of the Angliru still fresh in our legs. The stage ends back at the Hotel Palacio de las Nieves , where rest is more welcome than ever. This 4-star hotel boasts a well-maintained setting, ideal facilities for cyclists, and a Michelin-starred restaurant led by Ricardo Sotres , where we'll enjoy a memorable dinner.

A day for the brave, for lovers of great challenges, for those seeking to experience the true essence of the Asturian high mountains. Climbing the Angliru is a dream, and this stage puts it within your reach.

High mountain range, cycling, cider and mining culture

The third day of this journey through Asturias takes us from Pola de Laviana to Felguera , combining legendary mountain passes, cider-making tradition, and a finale steeped in mining history. A stage where cycling is experienced with intensity and Asturias is enjoyed with all five senses.

We set off gently towards Ciaño, where the day's big challenge begins: the Alto de la Mozqueta , one of the toughest and most spectacular climbs ever featured in the Vuelta a España . Its 10 kilometers, with gradients exceeding 12%, demand consistency, a steady cadence, and a burning desire to conquer the mountain. The reward awaits at the top: endless views, the silence of the high mountains, and the feeling of having conquered a climb that will be remembered.

After a fun and technical descent to Mieres, the second challenge arrives: Santo Emiliano . A gentler climb, 5 kilometers long with consistent gradients, ideal for recovering your form, enjoying the scenery, and preparing your body for the more gastronomic part of the day.

Back in Ciaño, one of the most special moments of the day arrives: the Mining Ecomuseum , an essential visit to understand the heart of the valley. We board the mining train, enter the tunnel, and experience firsthand the history of a territory that has shaped the Asturian character. An experience that completes the trip with emotion and learning.

The last 5 kilometers to Felguera are completely flat, perfect for a relaxed ride to the hotel shower. A stage that combines legendary mountain passes, Asturian culture, and local cuisine. A day to feel, discover, and enjoy Asturias from within.

Afterwards, we'll drive to the Alonso Cider Mill . More than just a break, it's an immersion in Asturian culture. A two-hour guided tour and an authentic Asturian cider house lunch (espicha ) are the perfect opportunity to discover local flavors and share travel stories with fellow cyclists.

Culture

Asturias is a land of strong character and boundless hospitality, where tradition coexists with landscapes that seem straight out of a postcard. Its culture is palpable in every stone village, in the plazas where conversations unfold peacefully, and in the cider houses where pouring cider becomes an art form.

It's a region proud of its Celtic roots, reflected in its music—bagpipes, drums, and traditional dances—its popular festivals, and its rural architecture. Here, life revolves around nature: the mountains, the sea, and the green meadows mark the daily rhythm.

On your route, you'll discover that every valley, every village, and every mountain pass tells its own story, and that cyclists are always welcome to share a meal, conversation, and scenery. Cycling in Asturias is much more than just a sport: it's immersing yourself in a vibrant, authentic culture deeply connected to its land.

Climate

Summer in Asturias is synonymous with mild temperatures, perfect for cycling. Forget the extreme heat: here, highs rarely exceed 25°C, and the nights are cool, ideal for relaxing after a day on the bike.

The days are long and bright, with a light that enhances the intense green of the mountains and the deep blue of the Cantabrian Sea. Although the climate is generally stable, the Atlantic influence can bring light rain and passing clouds, refreshing the atmosphere and leaving a clean scent on the landscape.

It's the perfect time to enjoy mountain and coastal routes without the oppressive heat, with the assurance that every pedal stroke will have the greenest and most vibrant Asturias as a backdrop.

Gastronomy

In Asturias, gastronomy is practically a religion. Fertile land and bountiful sea combine to offer hearty, flavorful dishes, perfect for replenishing energy after a hike. The most emblematic is fabada asturiana , slow-cooked with beans, chorizo, blood sausage, and bacon—a truly comforting stew.

There's no shortage of cachopo , two veal fillets stuffed with ham and cheese; verdinas beans with seafood ; and fresh fish like monkfish or hake in cider sauce. The Cantabrian Sea also provides top-quality shellfish: spider crabs, velvet crabs, and barnacles.

And, of course, natural cider is the star of the show, served with the traditional pouring technique, which not only oxygenates the cider but also transforms each serving into a social ritual. For dessert, the sweet touch comes from apple pie , rice pudding , or frixuelos (Asturian crepes). Eating in Asturias is more than just about sustenance: it's about experiencing the local culture through every bite.

The trip to Senegal was an extraordinary, immersive experience. It allowed you to experience the country firsthand, interacting with and meeting its people. The local guides were very friendly and truly professional. If you're willing to endure the discomforts of deep Africa, this is a highly recommended trip.
This solidarity trip to Senegal has exceeded my expectations.
The work being done by Bicycles Without Borders and Bikefriendly is commendable and makes me think there is still hope in the world.
I've seen firsthand that this project is real and not just a gimmick. The idea is truly brilliant, and it's helping many children and adolescents continue their education in a very meaningful way, as it's not a charity, but a means for the local population to develop.
The immersive experience in the country is complete, and traveling around the country by bike helps us feel fully integrated into the environment. In just one week, we've been able to understand and learn a lot about this country and its wonderful people, who are materially poor but spiritually rich.
I take my hat off to the work done by both the guide Sergio and the local team, which included Alpha, my lifelong friend and very professional, as well as Idi, Maurice, and Sidy.
I will definitely recommend this trip.
Senegal, a trip that touches your heart and soul and makes you reflect. Sports, experiences, culture, solidarity, and many other things you only experience when you're there. Sergio, our guide, was unbeatable. Always calm and poised, he conveyed his passion for cycling and introduced us to Senegalese culture. The management and service provided by Bikefriendly were brilliant from the start. We will travel with you again without hesitation.

This trip around Mallorca has been incredible, everything was well organized, the guide was attentive to us, always providing drinks, bars, gels, etc., giving advice, showing us places of interest, attentive to every detail. It's wonderful to discover places this way. You just have to focus on pedaling and enjoying the surroundings, as well as meeting like-minded people! Excellent in every aspect! Regards
It was an incredible four days! I didn't miss a thing! Sergio was on top of everything, along with Bea and Carlos, a master of organization! The refreshments were excellent and varied, the support along the route... They followed us closely, always on top of everything. The group was very good, but the captain (Sergio) played an important role.
I recommend it, the routes exceeded my expectations! The hotels were good and the food was very good.

FAQ

I have allergies or intolerances. Can you adapt the menus?
Yes, of course, at the end of the reservation, we will contact you and send you a form with some relevant questions: contact in case of emergency, allergies and intolerances, medical problems... The menus and supplies will always be adapted to your needs.
The best thing is that you always carry what you are used to taking: your salts, your bars... To avoid any downturn and so that you can eat and drink on the route whenever you need it. The refreshment stations will be marked at specific points and there you can refill the bottle, have a soft drink, fruit...
The guide will alternate rolling with everyone, but if the group stretches out, there will be times when you roll alone. That is why we will send the route tracks so that you can load them on your GPS device, or App that you use. Normally they ride in groups to the foot of the passes, where everyone ascends at their own pace. At the aid stations and stops, they regroup again.
You sign up for a trip where most of you don't know each other. We will propose a room layout to share with another person, but you are free to modify it.
Normally he is close to the last ones, but he must also attend to possible breakdowns and to the first ones when they reach the heights, so that they can warm up or change their clothes.
