Trekking: Piuray Lagoon - Huchuy Qosqo and Sauna with Flowering Bath
The day begins early with an exciting trekking that It will take us through some of the most impressive landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We leave from the beautiful Piuray Lagoon, located at an altitude of approximately 3,700 meters above sea level. This lagoon, surrounded by majestic mountains and crop fields, is a place of unique serenity, where the Andean sky is reflected in its crystalline waters.
From Piuray, we begin our hike ascending ancient trails that will take us through a spectacular mountainous environment. As we gain altitude, the views become increasingly impressive, with panoramic views that encompass the entire valley and the imposing Andean mountain ranges. This trekking, which reaches altitudes greater than 4,000 meters, will allow us to experience the grandeur of the Andes at its best..
Our first destination on the route is the archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo, whose name means "Little Cusco" in Quechua. Located at an altitude of about 3,600 meters, this site is less well-known than other sites in the Sacred Valley, but equally fascinating. Huchuy Qosqo was an important Inca administrative and residential center, and here we will explore its agricultural terraces, stone enclosures and storage systems. The remote location and peace that is breathed in Huchuy Qosqo offer us a special connection with the Inca past and a unique opportunity to contemplate the surrounding mountains from a place full of history.
Halfway there, we will pause to enjoy a picnic in this impressive natural environment. Surrounded by the grandeur of the Andes, we will taste fresh and energizing foods, while we take a well-deserved rest and appreciate the tranquility of the place.
After lunch, we will continue our descent towards the picturesque town of Lamay, located about 2,900 meters above sea level. As we descend, the landscape will change, going from high mountains and meadows to a greener and more fertile environment, where the Vilcanota River flows serenely. Arriving at Lamay after a day of walking is a rewarding experience, where you can relax and reflect on the adventure lived together with some traditional beers that we will drink in the Plaza del Pueblo :)
This trekking will not only allow us to explore fascinating archaeological sites and dreamlike landscapes, but will also connect us deeply with the majesty of the Andes and the rich cultural heritage of the Sacred Valley.
In the afternoon, Yuri will lead the MAMA COCA ceremony. The sacred and ancient coca leaf, in addition to its nutritional and social use, has a spiritual and therapeutic use. We will carry out the first provisioning of the road in Moray, an Inca archaeological site unique for its architecture. Moray is famous for its huge concentric circular terraces, which were used by the Incas as an agricultural laboratory to experiment with different crops and microclimates. Here, we will learn how these terraces, which sink up to 30 meters into the ground, allowed the Incas to simulate different climates and optimize agricultural production. This site is a testament to the ingenuity and ecological wisdom of the Incas, who deeply understood the relationship between land and climate.
From Moray, we will begin the descent by bicycle, crossing an Andean landscape that alternates between wide plains, gentle hills and spectacular views of the mountain range. As we advance, we will enjoy the view of the majestic snow-capped peaks, the intense blue sky and the agricultural fields that color the valley of different shades of green and gold, depending on the season. This section of the route is a perfect opportunity to connect with nature, while the fresh, pure air from the heights fills us with energy.
Our final destination is Salt Mines of Maras, a set of more than 3,000 salt wells dating back to pre-Inca times. These salt mines, located on the slopes of a mountain, have been exploited for generations and are still managed by local communities. Upon arrival, we will stop to explore this amazing white and pink landscape, where salt is extracted through an artisanal process that has remained almost unchanged over the centuries.

The view of the salt wells, staggered along the mountain and shining under the Andean sun, is a unique spectacle that is not easily forgotten.
This bicycle route from Moray to Maras will not only allow us to explore two of the most fascinating sites in the Sacred Valley, but will also offer us an immersive experience in the Andean landscapes, from the heights of Moray to the surprising scenery of the Salineras de Maras . It is a day full of discoveries, natural beauty and the rich cultural heritage that makes this valley such a special place.
Visit to the Lamay weavers and the Ale environmental project
Visit to the Lamay weavers and the Ale environmental project
Our visit to Lamay gives us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the life of the local communities and discover the ancestral art of Andean fabrics. We'll start the day by visiting the Lamay weavers, talented women who have kept traditional weaving techniques alive for generations. These textiles are not only pieces of art, but they also have deep cultural and spiritual meaning for Andean communities.
During our visit, we will observe how these artisans work with alpaca and sheep wool threads, using backstrap looms and techniques transmitted from mother to daughter. Each piece is a reflection of cultural identity, where colors and geometric designs tell stories about the Andean worldview, the relationship with Pachamama, and the cycles of nature. Furthermore, textiles represent a vital source of income for families, as their sale allows rural communities to maintain their local economy and preserve their traditional way of life.
After the visit, we will go to Villa Mágica, a charming refuge in the heart of the Sacred Valley, where we will enjoy a delicious organic meal. The fresh, organic ingredients used in Villa Mágica's kitchen come from local gardens, ensuring an authentic and sustainable culinary experience. Here, we will taste dishes that celebrate the richness of Andean gastronomy, made with products such as quinoa, corn, native potatoes, and fresh herbs, all prepared with a focus on health and respect for the environment.
In the afternoon we will visit the project Ale's environmental. A unique nursery in the world, with thousands of varieties, preserved with the aim of protecting them from extinction.
This day in Lamay will be an enriching experience, where we will connect deeply with the local culture, the importance of textiles as economic and cultural support, and the transformative power of solidarity and education in the lives of the children of the Sacred Valley.

Testimonials
The work being done by Bicycles Without Borders and Bikefriendly is commendable and makes me think there is still hope in the world.
I've seen firsthand that this project is real and not just a gimmick. The idea is truly brilliant, and it's helping many children and adolescents continue their education in a very meaningful way, as it's not a charity, but a means for the local population to develop.
The immersive experience in the country is complete, and traveling around the country by bike helps us feel fully integrated into the environment. In just one week, we've been able to understand and learn a lot about this country and its wonderful people, who are materially poor but spiritually rich.
I take my hat off to the work done by both the guide Sergio and the local team, which included Alpha, my lifelong friend and very professional, as well as Idi, Maurice, and Sidy.
I will definitely recommend this trip.
I recommend it, the routes exceeded my expectations! The hotels were good and the food was very good.
