The real cycling adventure begins in the French pyrenees, with a stage that brings together everything a cycling enthusiast could wish for: great mountain passes, legendary roads and picture-postcard landscapes.
From Biescas, we rolled towards the Col du PortaletA classic Pyrenean climb that opens the door to France. The ascent is long and steady, ideal for finding your rhythm and enjoying the alpine atmosphere that surrounds every bend. At the summit, at over 1.700 meters altitude, we cross the border and enter French territory, with the scent of cycling in the air. Tour de Francia floating in the air.
The descent leads us to the valley of Laruns, starting point of one of the most legendary mountain passes in world cycling: the Aubisque PassWith its winding curves, verdant slopes, and breathtaking views, the Aubisque is one of those climbs every cyclist dreams of conquering. Its final section, literally carved into the rock, is one of the most iconic landscapes in the Pyrenees.
From the top of Soulor, begin an exciting descent along a winding and technical road that will take you towards Argeles-Gazost, a picturesque town with hot springs. The first few kilometres of the descent are quite steep and the curves require caution, but the pleasure of speed and the scenery make this stretch very enjoyable for cyclists.
When you approach Luz Saint-Sauveur, the atmosphere changes, since this town is known for being surrounded by mythical mountain passes, and where cycling is breathed in every corner.
Don't forget to try the magnificent Ossau Valley cheese for dessert!!

Today we face a circular day of pure essence Pyrenean, with two ascents that have made history in the Tour de Francia: The Col du Hautacam y Luz ArdidenTwo mountains that breathe cycling from every corner and offer a perfect combination of challenge, beauty and excitement.
From Luz-Saint-Sauveur, we begin the ascent to Col du HautacamA mountain pass that alternates gentle slopes with steep, uneven sections, forcing riders to find the right rhythm. Its landscapes of open meadows, the sound of cowbells, and the views over the Argelès-Gazost valley accompany every pedal stroke. In 2025, this setting once again played a starring role in the Tour de France when Tadej Pogačar delivered a memorable performance, restoring Hautacam to its place in history.
After a spectacular descent, it's time for Luz ArdidenAnother colossus with its own name in the world of cycling. Its perfectly designed curves and constant gradient offer a climb that is as tough as it is rewarding. Each numbered bend commemorates the feats of great champions, and every meter gained feels like a small personal victory.
The return to Luz-Saint-Sauveur It completes a demanding and glorious day, one of those that are etched in memory.
Because conquer Hautacam y Luz Ardiden On the same day, it's like touching the soul of cycling: effort, beauty, and emotion in equal measure.

Luz Saint Sauveur - Bielsa
Epic crossing through the heart of the Pyrenees, which will take us back to Spain, including the ascent of two of the most legendary cycling ports, the Col du Tourmalet and the Col d'Aspin, which the Tour de France has climbed so many times.
From Luz Saint-Sauveur to the top of the Tourmalet cabbage (2.115 m) almost await us 19 kilometers of climbing with a average slope of 7,41%. The climb starts off gradually, but quickly becomes more demanding and the views more spectacular. The last 4 kilometres are the toughest, with gradients that can reach up to 11%, but the reward at the top is indescribable, with its iconic monument to the giant of the Tourmalet, a sacred place for cyclists.
The descent from the Tourmalet is fast and technical. The first few corners are tight and require concentration, but gradually the terrain becomes smoother.
After the grateful descent it will be time to climb the Aspin cabbage (1.489 m), 13 kilometers of ascent to climb again 600 meters. As you climb, the trees open up and mountain meadows begin to appear where you can see cows and horses grazing freely. The road winds to the top, offering spectacular views of the valley and the surrounding mountains.
The descent of the Aspin towards Arreau It is gentle and panoramic. You will follow the valley towards Saint-Lary-Soulan, where a taxi will pick us up and take us to Bielsa through the Bielsa-Aragnouet tunnel.
If anyone wants to cover more kilometres, they can add 30 kilometres + 1.000 metres ascending to the mouth of the tunnel, from where it is mandatory to get into the van to go through it.

An impressive journey that will take you through one of the wildest and most spectacular corners of the Aragonese Pyrenees, the Canyon of Añisclo, within the area of influence of the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, in addition to climbing the ports of Fanlo y Cotefablo.
After leaving behind the Pineta Valley, the road narrows and enters this deep gorge carved by the Bellós River, a place of breathtaking beauty. The road is narrow and winding, but every kilometer is a visual reward.
El Fanlo Harbour It is a short climb, with an average gradient of 6-7%. The last 2 km reach 10%. The descent meanders through a mountainous and forested environment, making it an exciting stretch, but you must be aware of the curves and traffic, as it is a tourist road.
El Port of Cotefablo (1.423 m) is a moderate climb, the accumulated wear makes it a considerable challenge. The road is wide and well paved, with gentle curves that allow you to enjoy the landscape without major technical complications.
As the end of the trip, the descent from Cotefablo to Biescas It's fast and fluid, with long straights and wide curves that allow you to reach good speed, but we must be careful in the tunnels.
End of an adventure in the Pyrenees that you will not forget!!

Culture
The culture that breathes with every pedal stroke in the Pyrenees
Beyond the effort and excitement of summiting legendary passes like the Tourmalet and the Aubisque, this trip is also an immersion in the unique culture surrounding the Pyrenees and the Tour de France itself.
In every mountain village we pass through, you'll feel the living history of cycling. Balconies adorned with jerseys, cafes hung with yellowed photos of legends like Hinault, Induráin, and Froome, and locals who will welcome you with that genuine enthusiasm only seen on Tour days. Here, cycling isn't just a sport: it's tradition, pride, and part of the local identity.
On the French side, the roads wind through alpine meadows and stone houses, where weekly markets still stand, filled with artisan cheeses, cured meats, and freshly baked breads. It's not unusual for a cyclist to stop for a few minutes to try a piece of fromage or a traditional dessert like gâteau à la broche before continuing on their way.
On the Spanish side, the Pyrenean heritage blends with the warmth of Aragon. Villages like Bielsa or the surroundings of the Añisclo Canyon will showcase traditional architecture built to withstand harsh winters, as well as vibrant plazas where you can share stories and toast at the end of the day.
And, of course, you'll experience the Tour de France live. A spectacle you don't just see, you can feel: the roar of the crowd, the colorful caravans, and the adrenaline rushing through the air as the professional cyclists zip through the hurdles.
On this journey, every mountain pass is a physical challenge... and every stage is an opportunity to connect with the culture, history, and passion for cycling that have made the Pyrenees one of the world's most iconic locations.
Climate
The weather in the Pyrenees in August
In August, the Pyrenees offer ideal conditions for road cycling. Temperatures are generally mild at higher altitudes (15°C to 22°C) and warmer in the valleys, allowing you to tackle the climbs with energy and enjoy pleasant descents. The sky usually offers many hours of sunshine, although in the high mountains, changes in weather can be sudden, so layering clothing and a light windbreaker are key to summiting each pass comfortably and safely.
Gastronomy
Flavors that will accompany you at every stage
The Pyrenees route is not only enjoyed on the bike: it is also savored. On the French side, mountain cheeses like Ossau-Iraty and hearty soups like French Ham and Vegetable Stew and artisan desserts like the cake on the spitOn the Spanish side, the Aragonese and Huesca tradition is served in the form of roast lamb, mountain crumbs, or game stews, ideal for replenishing energy after a day on the mountain passes. And on both sides of the border, there's no shortage of freshly baked bread, cured sausages, and local wines to toast each summit conquered.
Land
Roads to enjoy every kilometer
On this journey, you'll pedal along some of the most iconic and spectacular roads in world cycling. Perfectly maintained asphalt winds through mountains, legendary hairpin bends, and long uphill stretches where the scenery will compel you to keep going. These roads are open to traffic, but with low vehicle density for most of the route, ideal for riding safely and letting yourself be carried away by the charm of the Tour de France's grand mountain passes.

Testimonials
The work being done by Bicycles Without Borders and Bikefriendly is commendable and makes me think there is still hope in the world.
I've seen firsthand that this project is real and not just a gimmick. The idea is truly brilliant, and it's helping many children and adolescents continue their education in a very meaningful way, as it's not a charity, but a means for the local population to develop.
The immersive experience in the country is complete, and traveling around the country by bike helps us feel fully integrated into the environment. In just one week, we've been able to understand and learn a lot about this country and its wonderful people, who are materially poor but spiritually rich.
I take my hat off to the work done by both the guide Sergio and the local team, which included Alpha, my lifelong friend and very professional, as well as Idi, Maurice, and Sidy.
I will definitely recommend this trip.
I recommend it, the routes exceeded my expectations! The hotels were good and the food was very good.
