Culture
Asturias is a land of strong character and endless hospitality, where tradition coexists with landscapes that look like something out of a postcard. Its culture is felt in every stone village, in the squares where people chat peacefully, and in the cider houses where the poured becomes an art.
It's a region proud of its Celtic roots, reflected in its music—bagpipes, drums, and traditional dances—its popular festivals, and its rural architecture. Here, life revolves around nature: the mountains, the sea, and the green meadows mark the daily rhythm.
On your route, you'll discover that every valley, every village, and every mountain pass tells its own story, and that cyclists are always welcome to share a meal, conversation, and scenery. Cycling in Asturias is much more than just a sport: it's immersing yourself in a vibrant, authentic culture deeply connected to its land.
Weather
Summer in Asturias is synonymous with mild temperatures, perfect for cycling. Forget the extreme heat: here, highs rarely exceed 25°C, and the nights are cool, ideal for relaxing after a day on the bike.
The days are long and bright, with a light that enhances the intense green of the mountains and the deep blue of the Cantabrian Sea. Although the climate is generally stable, the Atlantic influence can bring light rain and passing clouds, refreshing the atmosphere and leaving a clean scent on the landscape.
It's the perfect time to enjoy mountain and coastal routes without the oppressive heat, with the assurance that every pedal stroke will have the greenest and most vibrant Asturias as a backdrop.
Gastronomy
In Asturias, gastronomy is almost a religion. Fertile land and generous sea come together to offer hearty, flavorful dishes, perfect for recharging your batteries after a hike. The most emblematic is the Asturian bean stew, cooked over a slow fire with beans, chorizo, blood sausage and bacon, a real hug in the form of a stew.
They don't miss the cachopo, two beef fillets stuffed with ham and cheese; the verdinas with seafood; and fresh fish such as monkfish or hake in cider. The Cantabrian Sea also offers top-quality seafood: spider crabs, velvet crabs, and barnacles.
And, of course, the natural cider It is the star of the show, served with the traditional pouring process, which not only oxygenates the drink, but also turns each serving into a social ritual. For dessert, the sweet touch is provided by the apple cake, the rice pudding or frixuelos. Testimonials
The work being done by Bicycles Without Borders and Bikefriendly is commendable and makes me think there is still hope in the world.
I've seen firsthand that this project is real and not just a gimmick. The idea is truly brilliant, and it's helping many children and adolescents continue their education in a very meaningful way, as it's not a charity, but a means for the local population to develop.
The immersive experience in the country is complete, and traveling around the country by bike helps us feel fully integrated into the environment. In just one week, we've been able to understand and learn a lot about this country and its wonderful people, who are materially poor but spiritually rich.
I take my hat off to the work done by both the guide Sergio and the local team, which included Alpha, my lifelong friend and very professional, as well as Idi, Maurice, and Sidy.
I will definitely recommend this trip.
I recommend it, the routes exceeded my expectations! The hotels were good and the food was very good.
