Girona's mountain biking has a special place in La Garrotxa, where nearly forty volcanoes rise among impenetrable forests crisscrossed by lava flows. While this volcanic center slumbers, the Tracks dels Volcans route offers a route along the most inhospitable and challenging paths and trails imaginable.

Ideal bike: Without a doubt, a full-suspension bike is the most suitable for this type of route.
Tires: Versatile tires are best, as the terrain varies considerably (rock slabs, paths, steps, tracks, loose gravel sections, cobblestones, singletracks, etc.). The area has abundant vegetation and some fairly narrow trails; local bikers use tubeless tires or inner tubes with sealant.
Navigation: The route is followed using a GPS track. The organizers also provide participants with a map of the route showing points of interest along the stages, restaurants, accommodations, etc.
Best time: It can be done all year round, but spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons; in summer it is usually hot, but the route is largely shaded, along wooded paths and trails.
Trail type: There are plenty of challenging and technical trails and paths, both uphill and downhill. Depending on individual technical skills and physical condition, the route is 95% rideable. There are some uphill sections and downhill sections that, we imagine, are only suitable for bikers with surnames like Hermida, Oulego & Co.
Philosophy: It is a self-guided and non-competitive tour; the important thing is to enjoy mountain biking in its purest form.
