Tracks Petit Canada

A route with two alternatives: AM with a high concentration of high-quality trails and XC with the same dreamlike landscapes and a lower technical level.

Description

TRACKS PETIT CANADÀ ALL MOUNTAIN
The All-Mountain version of the Tracks Petit Canada is a circular cross-border MTB route, designed to be completed in two or three stages, in a territory known as Little Canada, with a high concentration of high-quality trails with low and medium technical levels, surrounded by fir forests, small lakes, high mountain rivers, and breathtaking scenery.
A route that rivals the best international mountain biking destinations.
Also highly recommended for touring on an e-bike.
Enjoy it!

TRACKS SMALL CANADA XC
The XC (Cross Country) version covers the same areas as the original AllMountain route but with a lower level of difficulty, replacing a large part of the trails with forest tracks from the extensive network of cross-country ski resorts and White Routes in the area.
Same scenery, less stress!

TRACKS PETIT CANADA SLOW
The SLOW variant of the Petit Canada Tracks departs from the XC route and shortens some sections, making it an ideal itinerary for cyclists new to stage riding in the Pyrenees. The unique characteristics of this territory, located on a high plateau at 1600 m altitude, make it possible to complete a multi-day Pyrenean High Route without exceeding 1200 m of daily elevation gain in spectacular surroundings.

Adam Grifoll

Adam Grifoll, mountaineer, mountain bike guide, and PMBI instructor, has created a series of itinerant routes in the Mediterranean Pyrenees with the aim of showcasing, on bike, this wonderful cross-border territory between Spain, France, and Andorra.

With the Tracks Petit Canadà, the author wanted to delve deeper into this unknown territory, yet one filled with low- and medium-difficulty trails, through which the Tracks de Cerdanya passes only tangentially.

What started as a weekend route has evolved, thanks also to the collaboration of small accommodations, into a network of multi-day routes with different technical and physical levels, bringing this mountain bike paradise closer to any cyclist who loves the most isolated Pyrenees.

FAQs

Ideal bike: Any mountain bike (MTB). The choice will depend on each individual's priorities: lighter weight (hardtail) or greater comfort and enjoyment of trails and descents (full-suspension).
The route is also highly recommended for e-bikes, with charging points at all hotels.

Tires: Grip is generally excellent throughout the entire route, so you don't have to worry too much about the type of tire. You won't encounter clay or muddy terrain.

Orientation: The route is tracked using a GPS tracker. The organizers also provide participants with technical information for each stage, a route map, and useful information and tips throughout the route.

Best time: It can be done from April to November, with the best seasons being spring (with its lush landscape) and autumn (when the leaves are falling). In summer, the heat is very bearable, as this is a Pyrenean route with numerous forests and rivers where you can take a dip.

Type of roads: The trails are predominantly easy and medium-difficulty, covering soft terrain within fir forests. There are no loose stones, but there is granite rock in the form of large slabs or round blocks that you'll "play" with on your bike.

Philosophy: This is a self-guided, non-competitive tour; the important thing is to enjoy mountain biking in its purest form.

Luggage transport: Given the technical nature of the route, it is highly recommended to book this service. The price depends on the number of people.

Mechanical assistance: The organization offers support services on the road.

Supplies: Each stage passes through one or more villages where you can stop for food and water. However, you can hire a refreshment service.

Equipement: During the route, altitudes exceed 2000 meters, so the usual precautions for a high-mountain route should be taken: the weather can change suddenly, so it is advisable to always carry the necessary clothing in your backpack to cope with the most adverse weather conditions for the time of year in which the route is being undertaken.
