Cerdanya MTB Tracks

A circular route in the Pyrenees, which you can do at the technical and physical level you choose: TRAIL – AM with lots of trails, XC for the pisteurs, SLOW for those who want to take it easy, and PLUS for the strongest.

Description

La high Pyrenean route that runs through the Cerdanya valley and the Capcir plateau, a territory known as the valley of light, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year, and which hides endless trails between pine and fir forests, trails through torrents and streams and forest tracks between pastures and crops.

Is a circular, cross-border route with spectacular views and attention to the last detail so that the biker enjoys each and every kilometer.

A route you can't miss!

La Cerdanya MTB Tracks are divided into three categories with variants that you can choose depending on your technical level and the distance and elevation you want to cover each day:

Tracks Cerdanya Trail – AllMountain

This is the original Tracks de Cerdanya. The first! With stages of 55-57km and a positive elevation gain between 1500 and 1700m. It's the trail/allmountain category mountain bike route that covers the entire Cerdanya Valley, with a high percentage of medium-technical trails and trials.

Within this category we have two more options, the Experience, with the same technical level and philosophy but fewer daily kilometers, and the Plus intended only for the most trained cyclists.

Cerdanya XC Tracks

This is a cross-country route, with a similar course to the Tracks de Cerdanya Trail, but with a lower technical level, fewer trails and trials, and more kilometers of tracks. As with the Trail, there is the option to Experience, which goes over the same tracks but shortens the stages a little.

Cerdanya Slow Tracks

Starting from cross-country (XC) routes, the SLOW proposal further shortens the daily route to bring this staged route closer to a more amateur audience, who want their first experience on a staged route in the Pyrenees. The stages are a maximum of 40 km, and you can tackle each one as a morning (and have the afternoons free) or do them leisurely throughout the day.

Adam Grifoll

Adam Grifoll, mountaineer, mountain bike guide, and PMBI instructor, has created a series of itinerant routes in the Mediterranean Pyrenees with the aim of showcasing, on bike, this wonderful cross-border territory between Spain, France, and Andorra.

Over time, the Tracks de Cerdanya Original, known for its trails and rather technical course, has branched out into 20 different routes! You can choose from these routes based on your fitness level and technique:

Choose between the Cerdanya Trail, Experience, XC (Cross Country), Slow, Enduro or family tracks and come and enjoy cycling in the widest valley in the Pyrenees.

FAQs

Ideal bike: Any mountain bike (MTB). The choice will depend on each individual's priorities: lighter weight (hardtail) or greater comfort and enjoyment on descents (full-suspension).

Tires: Although there's a wide variety of terrain along the route (hard, sandy, rocky, alpine meadows), the grip is always good on all of them, and you won't find any clay or muddy terrain, or trails or trails with loose rocks. You're in mountain biking paradise!

Orientation: The route is tracked using a GPS tracker. The organizers also provide participants with technical information for all stages, a route map, and useful information and tips throughout the route.

Best time: The route can be done from May to November, with the best seasons undoubtedly being spring (with hundreds of streams and lush landscapes) and autumn (with the fall of the leaves). In summer, the heat is very bearable, and during the rest of the season, don't forget that Cerdanya is the region in Catalonia with the most hours of sunshine per year! During the Tracks de Cerdanya route, altitudes exceed 2000 m, and therefore, the usual precautions for a high-mountain route should be taken: the weather can change suddenly, so it is advisable to always carry the necessary clothing in your backpack to cope with the most adverse weather conditions for the time of year when you are doing the route.

Type of roads: The climbs are comfortable and rideable, almost always on paths. The descents and flat terrain are rich in trails and less technical trials. But if you're more technical or enduro enthusiastic, there's also the Cerdanya Enduro Tracks. The route is 100% rideable. However, individual technique is always crucial when deciding whether to continue or dismount at a given point.

Philosophy: This is a self-guided, non-competitive tour; the important thing is to enjoy mountain biking in its purest form.

Luggage transport: Given the technical nature of the route, it is highly recommended to book this service. The price depends on the number of people and the stages of the route.

Mechanical assistance: The organization offers support services on the road.

Supplies: Each stage passes through one or more villages where you can stop for food and water. However, you can hire a refreshment service.

If you opt for the Trail – AllMountain routes, you'll find plenty of trails and trials of a medium technical level. But if you prefer trails, then you'll have to choose from the different options within the XC routes. If you're more technical or more into enduro riding, you also have the Cerdanya Enduro Tracks, which you'll find on the dedicated page. All routes are considered 99,9% rideable. However, individual technique is always decisive when it comes to continuing or dismounting the bike at a given point.
