Bikefriendly and 11 other entities from the business and associative network make up Pedal Spain
A project whose main objective is to promote cycle tourism in our territory.
El cycling is one of the sectors with the greatest potential in our country. An activity that allows us to provide solutions to the conflicts of the tourism model of territorial concentration and seasonality, sustainable and respectful of the environment, which is a first-rate economic engine and which continues to gain followers throughout the planet. Every year, thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds visit our destinations to enjoy bicycle tourism. Spain, with its favourable climate and geographical diversity, has all the potential to become a leading destination in this sector, in the image and likeness of neighbouring countries such as France or Germany. In addition, It has established routes such as those that make up the Eurovelo network, the Camino de Santiago or the Green Routes.
With that reality in mind, Pedal Spain was born.
A project whose main objective is to position Spain as a top-level destination for cycle tourism worldwide, as well as integrating all the agents that play an important role within the sector. Ultimately, Pedal Spain It aims to create the Cycle Tourism Coordination Centre in Spain, for which the construction of a website and a marketplace is already underway, together with the celebration of a Cycle Tourism Fair, in September 2025 in Zaragoza. The objective: that anyone looking for information on cycle tourism in Spain, from anywhere in the world, has a place to go to get information and learn about destinations and products.
Bikefriendly was born more than 10 years ago, generating the first Cycle Tourism Quality Seal for state-wide tourist accommodation, a seal that Currently has the best positioning and the greatest presence at the national level. In turn, Bikefriendly has positioned itself as one of the specialized travel agencies of national and international reference, with recognized brands such as “Bikefriendly Tours” or "“Bike-friendly Tracks” which cover a wide range of experiences linked to national and international cycle tourism.
Beside Bikefriendly There are some of the main entities in the sector, starting with the ConBici Coordinator, the main reference in Spain for the promotion of the bicycle as a means of transport. An organization established in 1990, with extensive experience working with both public and private entities and made up of 72 associations and groups of cyclists from all over Spain. JTogether with her and Bikefriendly, the project is completed by Rutas Pangea, Biela y Tierra, Hualapai Travel, EntreTierras, Turybike, Ciclería, Multiaventura Buendía, S-Cape Travel, Mediterraneanbiketours and the Subbética Cycling Centre.
The Pedal Spain project is possible thanks to the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism of the Government of Spain through the European Next Generation funds.
“This is a project that will give the necessary impetus for cycle tourism in Spain to position itself in the place it needs to be” explains Belén Calahorro, Coordinator of the Pedalea España project at ConBici. For Calahorro, the project is based on three basic lines of action: “On the one hand, the importance of generating a narrative of cycle tourism in Spain. An experience that is universal, since it includes all types of cyclists, types of bicycles, destinations and origins, both national and international.”
The second line to highlight is governance. “The Pedal Spain project involves all the driving forces, which are both the administrations and the civil associations in which ConBici is involved. But the great strength of this project is that we also bring in companies to promote cycle tourism with them,” Calahorro emphasizes.
Finally, the third pillar of Pedal Spain is that it tries to “to bring together information about the project so that it can facilitate, through a market place and a website, the work of companies and users, to include all products and destinations related to cycle tourism in Spain in a single space.”
